Gutter Cleaning Techniques

  1. Hand Removal From A Ladder: This is probably the most common method that people use when it comes to cleaning gutters on a building. You place the ladder on the side of the building in order to climb right up to the gutters and remove the debris. You want to make sure that you don't place the ladder directly on the gutter system because the gutters were not designed for this type of pressure and you can damage your gutters this way if you dent or crack them or even loosen the bolts that are holding the gutters on to the building. It is a smart idea to perform this technique with two individuals. One person can stay on the ground and hold the ladder in place while the other person climbs up the ladder and cleans out the gutter system. You have two ways of getting rid of the debris in the gutters. You can either throw the debris on the ground to land on a tarp and possibly have it land on the person down below or you can place it in a bag or bucket attached to the ladder. Be careful not to overload your bucket with weight before you attempt to bring it down or else you might lose your balance and fall of the ladder. Always try to be safe when working on gutters.
  2. Technique number two is using a leaf blower to clean out the gutters. This method you can either use the leaf blower from a ladder or you can get on top of the roof and use it from standing on the roof. If the roof is at a sharp angle then it might be safer to use a ladder. The trick with using a leaf blower is that the debris in the gutter and on the roof needs to be dry. If the leaves and debris are we they are not going to blow away very easy. So this method is best for warmer seasons of the year.
  3. The water technique is another way to clean the gutter systems. You can either use a water hose and spray out the gutters or you can use a pressure washer to spray out the gutters at a higher psa rate. If you use a pressure washer you are going to see a big difference in how the gutters look when you are done. You still might have to manually remove the debris from the gutters if they are really clogged and then you can go through with the pressure washer.
